ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College Department of Athletics hosted the annual President's Golf Classic on Nov. 10.

The President's Golf Classic was held once more at the King & Bear course at the World Golf Village. Over 110 golfers participated in the annual fundraiser which, coupled with the Crimson & Gold Banquet on Nov. 2, raised over $164,000 to support the Flagler Athletics general scholarship fund.

The $164,000 raised marks the second-highest total in the history of the two events. W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractors returned as the event's title sponsor while Ameris Bank once again served as the presenting sponsor.

"The Flagler College President's Golf Classic brings our supporters and community together in a very special way to make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes," said Jud Damon, director of athletics. "This year's event was a great success thanks to these supporters and all those who helped bring the event together under the guidance of Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Joey Wiles."

The President's Golf Classic garnered a record $83,500 in sponsorship from local businesses and friends of Flagler Athletics.

A record 28 teams competed in this year's President's Golf Classic. The team of Brookes Burkhardt, Michael Burkhardt, Peter Burkhardt, and Kurt Wuenschel captured the prestigious Abare Cup as tournament champions after posting a score of 18-under par.

The foursome of Tim Bucolo, Tiru Chabba, David Disalvo, and Masa Yamashita posted the top net score at 28-under.

The Department of Athletics would like to thank all the Flagler College staff members, coaches, student-athletes, and volunteers that provided their time and effort to organize and present the President's Golf Classic.
