Saints win third tournament in a row and Jelinek shares medalist honors

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 18 (WGCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College women's golf team won their third consecutive title after shooting a 7-under par 569 (289-280) at the NCAA Division II National Championship Fall Preview, which finished Tuesday afternoon at the Orange County National Golf Center – Panther Lake (par 72; 6,109 yards).

Flagler shattered several records in winning the tournament. The 36-hole score broke the previous mark by 15 strokes and the 7-under par smashed the old record of 8-over par. Stella Jelinek, who shared medalist honors with a 6-under 138 (72-66) tied her own record for lowest round by a golfer with her final round 66. Her 138 beat the previous 36-hole record by three strokes. Jelinek's 6-under par broke the score relative to par by three strokes.

Jelinek assaulted the course on the front nine with four birdies. She added three more on the back nine and had one bogey. Jelinek moved up 16 places thanks to her sizzling final round.

Also finishing in the top 10 for the Saints were Henriette Stranda and Jordyn Hodgson. Stranda finished in a tie for third place with a 1-under 143 (71-72). Hodgson finished in a tie for eighth place with an even par 144 (71-73). Sophie Wheeler shot a season-best 3-under 69 in the final round and finished in a tie for 13th place with a 2-over 146 (77-69).

Shanya Arasu finished in a tie for 58th place with a 10-over 154 (75-79) and Sloane Siebert, Flagler's individual, carded a 24-over 168 (79-89).

Saint Leo University finished in second place with a 1-over 577 (290-287). No. 15 Barry University (579) followed in third while top-ranked Dallas Baptist University (580) finished in fourth place. Twelve of the 13 teams in the field were ranked in the top 25.

Daniela Ballesteros of Barry finished in a tie with Jelinek atop the 77-woman field. Five golfers finished in a tie for third place with a 1-under 143.

That concludes the fall season for the Saints.
