KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Small College Basketball and the National Hall of Fame Committee announced today that former University of Central Florida great as well as retired Flagler College head men's basketball coach Bo Clark will be inducted into the Small College Basketball National Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
"It's a tremendous honor to be an inductee into this prestigious hall of fame," said Clark. "When you look at some of the names already inducted in past years . . .it looks like a list of who's who in college and pro basketball. Names like: Dr. James Naismith, John Wooden, Phil Jackson, Walt Frazier, Jerry Sloan, Jack Sikma and Earl "The Pearl" Monroe. I am truly humbled to even be mentioned in the same conversation as them. But the common denominator was they were all giants of basketball who played or coached at the small college level in their careers. We (UCF) had a fabulous run in the NCAA Division II era in the mid-70s. I was blessed to play with not only unbelievable players, but most importantly great teammates . . .unselfish teammates. And the opportunity to play for my dad (Torchy) was an experience I'll always cherish."
Clark was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American for the Golden Knights. He led the country in scoring with an average of 31.6 points per game in the 1978-79 season. Clark is the holder of several records at UCF, including the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,866 points. He helped lead them to four NCAA Division II tournament appearances.
At Flagler, Clark was the program's head coach for 31 years and amassed a 491-378 record over that span. He was named the Florida Sun Conference Coach of the Year two years in a row (2003-04 and 2004-05) and three times overall. Clark guided the team to a program-best 26 wins in 2003-04 and the first of two consecutive NAIA Sweet 16 appearances.
