COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Flagler College women's soccer team was edged by No. 3 Columbus State University, 3-1, in a penalty kick shootout after the first 110 minutes of the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship ended in a 1-1 tie. Goalkeeper

Â
It was a Peach Belt Conference rematch on a chilly day in Columbus, Georgia. Columbus State came out with a vengeance after the Saints defeated them 1-0 in the teams' last meeting for the PBC Championship. The Cougars took 18 shots in the first half, but North made five saves to keep a 0-0 score going into the second half.
Â
Josefine Nilsen came out of halftime on fire, dribbled a goal kick from North into the box, shot from the right corner of the goal area and drilled the ball into the left side of the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.
Â
In the 67th minute, the Cougars answered back with a goal by Rachael Sweigard, assisted by Emma Beddow, to knot the game at 1-1. Columbus State took 10 shots on goal in the second half, but North made nine stops for the Saints to send the match into overtime. North's nine saves in the second half alone would have set a career-high for the keeper, but she was not done yet.
Â
North made three more saves in the 20 minutes of overtime to set the program's single-game record with 17 saves. The senior keeper kept the game alive, forcing a penalty kick shootout.
Â
The Cougars made their first two penalty kicks, while the Saints notched their first from
Andrea Fernandez to make it a 2-1 game. Columbus State missed its third kick and Flagler missed the next two. The Cougars made the fourth penalty kick to secure the 3-1 advantage.
Â
Although not reflected in the score, Columbus State controlled the game with a 44-9 advantage in shots, an 18-6 advantage in shots on goal and an 18-2 dominance in corner kicks.
