ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Flagler College softball team wrapped up its final non-conference series ahead of Peach Belt Conference play Thursday morning.
The Saints came into game three with the hopes to split with visiting Hillsdale College after each won a game Wednesday; however, the Chargers took game three at Flagler Field in six innings, 9-1. Flagler will now turn to conference play with its doubleheader at USC Aiken, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday in Aiken, S.C.
After
Mercedes Salinas cut the Chargers' lead in half in the bottom of the first with an RBI-single to score
Bella Munoz, Flagler (6-8) was never able to get string together any more run-producing innings. Hillsdale starter Dana Weidinger (9-3) kept the Saints' bats quiet after they had three of their five hits in the first inning as
NaJah Gerrald had two while
Mackenzie Smith, Munoz, Salinas, and
Kirsty Granville all had one apiece.
Flagler starter
Sidney Mathis (L, 0-1) faced three batters in the second inning before
Madelyn Wise relieved her with zero outs, down 2-1. Wise worked through the inning but not before the Chargers (12-10) plated three more runs to take the 5-1 lead. Wise did settle in over the next three frames as she tossed three scoreless innings to give the Saints a chance to get back into it. But in the sixth, Hillsdale broke it open with a four-run, four-hit frame to take game three in six innings.
