DADE CITY, Fla. – Sophie Wheeler won her second career medalist honor this afternoon at the Saint Leo Invitational. She held off two golfers with a 5-over par 221 (67-73-81) at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club (par 72; 6,062 yards). Her birdie on the par-4 No. 18 hole secured the win.     

The last tournament Wheeler won was her first collegiate tournament on Oct. 12, 2020, at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial.

The University of Tampa finished atop the nine-team field with a 33-over 897 (298-300-299). The host school, Saint Leo University, and Florida Southern College tied for second at 53-over.

Finishing behind Wheeler was Ana Maria Jimenez Rios and Emilie Bjorge of Tampa. Both shot a 6-over 222.

Marietta Ruhl, playing as an individual, recorded her first top 10 finish in her career. She shot a 10-over 226 to finish in a tie for fifth place. Jan Browne tied for 14^th place with a season-best 15-over 231. Fernanda Lacaz tied for 23^rd place with a 23-over 236 while Vivien Roesner tied for 25^th place with a 21-over 237. Roesner had a hole-in-one on the par-3 No. 12 hole. Anna Asphamn and Hannah Sevens tied for 39^th place at 28-over.

Flagler wraps up its fall campaign with the 19^th annual Flagler Fall Slam Oct. 25-26 at the Marsh Creek Country Club.
