ST. AUGUSTINE –
Paige Maseda went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the sixth to help power Flagler College to a 6-1 win over Eckerd College in the Old Coast Classic Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Maseda's first collegiate home run started a four-run sixth inning for Flagler (6-1), which allowed plenty of breathing room for
Kyra Gipson (5-0) in the seventh. She allowed a lead-off single, but stranded the runner there after retiring the next three hitters in order.
Gipson allowed one run on five hits to go along with five strikeouts and four walks. She set down 11 batters on groundouts and another five flew out.
The Saints broke a 1-all tie in the fifth after
Genevieve Mangini led off with a walk, took second after
NaJah Gerrald was walked and both were sacrificed to third. Mangini scored on
Natalie Murphy's sacrifice fly.
Gerrald collected two singles and scored two runs for the Saints.
Kensley Durrance (1-2) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and went the distance for the Tritons.
Ally Costa had two singles for Eckerd (2-3).
The same two teams meet tomorrow (Feb. 9) at 3 p.m. at Flagler Field to wrap up the Old Coast Classic.
