ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College split a pair of matches today, winning 3-1 (25-19, 28-26, 19-25, 25-23) over the University of West Georgia and then falling 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 17-25) to Walsh University, on the first day of the Flagler Saints Classic Friday at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler is now 4-2 in the season.
West Georgia (1-1 in the tournament) is now 3-3. Walsh (1-1) moved to 3-2 while Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University won its first two matches of the season. Lees-McRae (0-2) fell to 0-6.
In the opener,
Rebekah Machovec led the Saints with 13 kills and hit an efficient .310 as she had only four errors on 29 swings. She added six digs and three total blocks. Her twin sister, Rachel, added 11 kills and completed the double-double with 16 digs.
Karlie Redfern also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Kennedy Muff tallied 37 assists and had four aces.
Kayla Norelli collected a match-high 17 digs.
Jordan Taylor recorded five total blocks and added nine kills. She finished with a .375 hitting percentage with only three errors on 16 swings.
McKenna Wharton led the Wolves with a match-high 14 kills and seven digs. Anjelina Webb hit .435 with 11 kills and had one error on 23 swings. Emilee Harris collected 14 digs and Madi Fleming tallied 38 assists.
West Georgia had 13 aces, but also had 14 service errors.
In the evening session, Lauren Loucks led the Cavaliers with 15 kills and finished with a .355 hitting percentage. She had four errors on 31 swings. Olivia Kearns recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 13 digs. Sam Wentz added 13 digs.
Walsh overcame 11 service errors.
Rachel Machovec and
Karlie Redfern led the Saints with six kills apiece. Taylor added five more. Muff tallied 26 assists while
Rachel Machovec collected 13 digs.
Flagler hosts Lees-McRae College at noon and will face old rival Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m.
