DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Flagler College was looking to snap a three-match losing streak, but were defeated twice today, 3-1, by Eckerd College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the Bahama House Labor Day Classic held at the ICI Center.
Flagler dropped to 1-5 on the season while Eckerd improved to 3-2 and Embry-Riddle moved to 4-1.
Karlie Redfern and
Cadie O'Hern combined to record 50 kills and 28 digs.
Raquel Kulak added 19 kills and three total blocks.
In the first match of the day against Eckerd, Redfern recorded her second consecutive double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs, but it wasn't enough in a 20-25, 12-25, 25-18, and 21-25 loss. O'Hern hit .265 with 14 kills and five errors on 34 swings. Kulak hit a sizzling .417 with 11 kills and just one error on 24 swings.
Tara Savisky recorded her second-straight double-double with a season-high 42 assists and 10 digs.
Kayla Norelli collected a match-high 17 digs.
Paula Hoffman led the Tritons with 16 kills and 11 digs. Sarah Johnshoy added 11 kills and hit .368. Fernanda Reis just missed a double-double with 48 assists and nine digs. Rebekah Machovec and Ivey Andrews each served up three aces.
The Saints started well against their old rival Embry-Riddle, but fell 25-20, 17-25, 18-25 and 19-25. Redfern recorded half of her 12 kills in the first set alone and hit .600 in that set. O'Hern and Kulak added nine and eight kills, respectively. Savisky added 33 assists while Norelli gathered 17 digs.
Embry-Riddle was led by Erika Barbour's match-high 16 kills and she added four total blocks. McKenna James hit .687 with 13 kills and one error on 18 swings. Melanie Canfield recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Sam Lanning collected nine total blocks. Alyssa Rudd notched a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs. Olivia Roa collected a match-high 24 digs.
Flagler concludes play in the tournament tomorrow when it faces McKendree University at 5 p.m.
