ST. AUGUSTINE – There will be additional entertainment on the sidelines of Flagler College basketball games this upcoming season. For the first time, the College is putting together a pep band to add to the overall atmosphere of Flagler Gymnasium.
"The Flagler College Pep Band, a new ensemble which shall be established in fall semester, will serve our students and college community in several ways," said Adjunct Professor Clinton Weinberg. "First and foremost, the pep band will be present at all men's and women's home basketball games to boost the morale, and engage the crowd. Also, the band will offer students an outlet to continue playing their instruments beyond high school, serve as a source of school spirit, and represent Flagler College with pride."
Flagler was one of a few Peach Belt Conference institutions to not have a pep band.
Band officers will be elected each fall semester by the band membership. The pep band will consist of students who are dedicated to school spirit and collaborating with their peers to create music in a collegial atmosphere.
The pep band may also play additional events at the request of the College President. The purpose of the organization is to serve the Flagler College community by supporting the athletics teams, campus-sponsored events and to provide students with scholarship opportunities to share their musical talents.
The instruments that are welcome to the pep band are winds and brass, electric bass as well as drums and percussion.
