ST. AUGUSTINE – Columbus State University extended its winning streak to eight games as it swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Flagler College, 4-2 and 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Columbus State improved to 23-14 overall and 9-3 in conference play. Flagler fell to 21-18 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
In the opener, McKenzie Fagioli broke up the scoreless tie as she led off the fourth inning with a home run.
Flagler countered with an unearned run in the home half and each team scored a run in the fifth.
In the sixth, a bases loaded walk to Lee Anne Rees gave the Lady Cougars the lead and Mary Horne followed with a base hit to left field to score the insurance run.
Darby Demarest (10-7) scattered six hits and allowed one earned run to pick up the win. She fanned eight, but walked six batters. Demarest threw a wild pitch and hit two batters, but managed to force the Saints to strand 13 base runners.
Horne collected two singles and drove in a run.
Ally Marcano (9-9) tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowed six hits and four runs. She walked eight and fanned two.
Katlyn McCue finished the game.
Jaclyn Mijuskovic finished with a pair of single.
Garland Evans hit an RBI double in the fourth and
Natalie Murphy had an RBI single in the fifth.
In game two, Elizabeth Perdue socked a three-run home run in the first inning and Columbus State never looked back.
The Lady Cougars tacked on three more runs in the sixth.
That was more than enough offense for Peyton Sorrells (10-3) who tossed six scoreless innings and surrendered four hits. She walked two and fanned four. Sorrells retired 13 of the first 14 batters she faced.
Perdue finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Calli Star went 3-for-4 with a double. Kia Smith added two singles, scored two runs and knocked in another.
McCue (12-9) started and tossed 5 2/3 innings. She yielded eight hits and six runs. McCue walked seven and fanned four.

Flagler will now embark on an eight-game road trip starting with Wednesday's (April 4) doubleheader at Lynn University at 1 p.m. at Boca Raton.
