GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Aaron Anderson belted a two-run home run to right field in the second inning in Flagler College's 7-2 romp over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Dolny Stadium.
Flagler extends its winning streak to 11 games and improved to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the Peach Belt. The streak for the Saints is the program's best since reeling off 11 in a row in 2001 and the 7-0 start in league is its best since joining the PBC in 2010. Lander lost its fifth game in a row and dropped to 5-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The Saints scored early and often against the Bearcats. Flagler plated a run in the first and Anderson's homer in the second gave the Saints a 3-0 lead.
Jimmy Peck hit a solo homer in the third and Flagler added two more runs in the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
That gave starter
Robert Girgis (3-0) all the support he would need. He tossed seven innings, scattered seven hits and allowed two run to pick up the win. Girgis struck out a season-best eight batters.
Kyle Hansen tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Ethan Crout went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Jason Moore collected two singles and had three runs batted in. Anderson finished 2-for-4 with the home run.
Tripper Engle (1-2) lasted six innings as he allowed six earned runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out five. Robbie Hoyt tossed three scoreless innings in relief.
Mike Fitschen collected three singles and drove in a run for Lander. Bailey Connell went 2-for-5 with a triple while Carson Jones went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Kyle Jenkins added two singles and Alex Conaway went 2-for-3 with a double and he scored the other Bearcat run.
The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. as the series continues.
