Saints pound Tars in grand fashion

ST. AUGUSTINE – Aaron Anderson belted a grand slam in the first inning and Flagler College cruised past Rollins College 8-1 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday night at Alfond Stadium.

Flagler improved to 5-2 on the season while Rollins fell to 3-3.

The Saints got things started in the first when Ethan Crout and Dillon Reed drew walks. Jason Moore followed with a single to right to load the bags. Two batters later, Anderson cleared them all with a home run to left field.

Sean Lawlor followed with a single and scored on Evan Lowe's double to left-center.

That would be more than enough for Jett Walsh (1-0) who tossed six shutout innings and scattered five hits in his Flagler debut. He fanned eight and walked three batters. Kyle Hanson (2IP) and Trey Frazier (1IP) finished the game.

Lowe finished the game 2-for-3 as he added a he added a two-run homer in the third. He collected three runs batted in. Moore went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Frankie Martello hit a solo home run in the seventh.

AJ Chacon (0-1) lasted one inning for the Tars. He surrendered four hits and five earned runs. Chacon also walked three batters. Four more Rollins pitchers worked in relief.

Brendan Brundage and Bryce Peterson each collected two singles.

Flagler opens Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday against Francis Marion University at 1 p.m. with the first game of a doubleheader.
