Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second half surge pushes Saints past Lions, 82-64

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College shot a red-hot 62.1 percent (18-29) from the field in the second in route to an 82-64 victory over Paine College in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 2-1 while Paine lost its season opener.

"I love the spirit of this bunch," said head coach Chad Warner. "We have a tremendous amount of things to work on, but I love the fight of our team."

The Saints used a 12-4 run midway through the second half to increase their lead to 10 (55-45), but it was a massive 20-6 spurt late in the second half that put the game away. Damerit Brown and DeMari Davis combined to score 14 of those points in the 5-minute, 36-second span. The Saints defense held the Lions to 3-of-10 shooting from the field in that time frame.

Brown led the Saints with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He sank three 3-pointers. Kris Totoris added 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists while Vaughn McCall and Gedi Juozapaitis each contributed 10 points. Jeffercy Jean and Chris Metzger grabbed seven rebounds apiece. Logan Swackhammer dished out six assists.

Cameron Gaines led Paine with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Charles Fairchild added 13 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Fadil Robinson and Joshua Holliday each tallied 10 points. Khalen Pinkett registered six assists.

Flagler returns to action on Friday (Nov. 16) against former rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Tip at Flagler Gymnasium is at 7:30 p.m.

"The crowd was great tonight and we really appreciate that," added Warner. "We need everyone back Friday!"
