Crout’s two-run double keys Flagler rally in the seventh

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With the score knotted at 1-all in the top of the seventh inning, Ethan Crout hit a two-run double to right field which led Flagler College to a 4-2 win over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Sliwa Stadium.

Flagler snapped its three-game losing skid and improved to 26-19. Embry-Riddle has now lost five-of-its-last-six games and fell to 13-28.

The Eagles struck first with a run in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Cole Habig drew a one out walk and moved all the way around the bases on three wild pitches by Flagler starter Dustin Dye.

That score would hold until the seventh. Cole Ondrejka hit a leadoff single to left-center and took third on Jake Hathaway's single down the right field line. JaKobi Dasher's infield single to shortstop plate Ondrejka to tie the game. Sean Lawlor bunted the runners up a base and then Crout's hit scored both runners.

Hathaway added a run-scoring single in the eighth for insurance.

The Eagles got one run back in the eight, but couldn't pull any closer.

Ethan Jones (2-0), the fourth of five Flagler pitchers used, tossed two innings, allowed four hits and one run to pick up the win. Luke Cooksey pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings to close out the game and earn his sixth save of the year. He fanned three batters. Jordan Doyle and Dante Pagano also saw time in relief.

Crout, Ondrejka and Hathaway each collected two hits for Flagler. Crout had the two runs batted in, Ondrejka scored twice and Hathaway scored a run and drove in another.

Troy Naab (1-5) tossed seven innings, scattered six hits and allowed three runs as he received the loss. He walked two and fanned four.

Justin Franklin hit two doubles for Embry-Riddle.

Flagler wraps up its Peach Belt Conference slate this weekend at No. 3 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) University of North Georgia. The first game will be played Friday (April 21) night at 6 p.m. at Dahlonega.
