No. 18 Sharks bullpen and bats too much for No. 24 Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 18 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Nova Southeastern University got solid relief pitching and hit three home runs to defeat No. 24 Flagler College 6-4 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Nova Southeastern improved to 17-10 overall while Flagler fell to 19-10.

Derik Beauprez (1-0), a transfer from the University of Miami, came on in relief of Jonny Ortiz in the sixth inning. With the score deadlocked at 4-all, Beauprez faced nine batters over three innings of work and struck out eight. The other batter grounded out. Josh Glick closed the last inning as he stranded a lead-off double by striking out two batters and getting the other batter to hit a tapper back to the mound to earn his third save of the year.

Andrew Liberty broke up the tie with a lead-off home run to left field in the fifth inning.

Jake Anchia belted a solo home run to left-center in the ninth for insurance.

Brandon Gomez went 2-for-4 with a triple and he scored a run. Brendan Cutting went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and he knocked in a run.

Seven of Nova Southeastern's 10 hits went for extra bases.

Ryan Ashworth (1-2) tossed a career-best 6 2/3 innings and he scattered eight hits and allowed five runs. He fanned a career-high seven batters. Dante Pagano and Ethan Jones finished the game for Flagler.

Jason Moore went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the fifth, which tied the game. He drove in a total of four runs. Igor Baez singled twice and had one run batted in. Cole Ondrejka collected two singles.

Flagler returns to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. The first game is Friday night at 6 p.m.
