Moore, Ashworth and No. 17 Saints round up the Moccasins

LAKELAND, Fla. – Jason Moore went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and one run batted in to lead No. 17 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Flagler College to a 9-4 win over Florida Southern College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Henley Field.

Flagler extended its winning streak to four games and it improved to 13-3 overall. Florida Southern lost its fourth game in a row and fell to 8-6 overall.

The Saints erupted for four runs in the first two innings and never looked back.

Ja'Kobi Dasher, the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week, hit a two-run single to stake Flagler to a 4-0 lead after one inning.

The Saints sent nine men to the plate in the second inning. With runners at the corners and one out, Jake Hathaway greeted reliever AJ Smith with a base hit and the Saints grabbed a 5-0 lead. Moore followed with an RBI double and a Cole Ondrejka sacrifice fly gave Flagler a 7-0 advantage. Dasher added a run-scoring single to cap the inning.

That's all Ryan Ashworth (1-0) would need in his first career start. Ashworth tossed five innings, scattered five hits and allowed one unearned run. He fanned a career-high six batters to earn his first collegiate victory. Ethan Jones, Louis Pugliese, Nick Martinez and Luke Cooksey all saw one inning of work.

Dylan Jones, the nation's leader in doubles, added to his total (13), with another one tonight. He collected three hits altogether and scored two runs. Ondrejka singled twice and drove in two runs while Dasher also had two singles and he knocked in three runs.

Chase Pilato (1-1) tossed 1 1/3 innings, allowed five hits and six runs for Florida Southern. The Mocs used six different pitchers.

Kevin Fuller went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Cody Burgess went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and he scored a run. Mitch Reeves went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Jason Sierra collected a pair of singles.

Flagler returns home to face No. 2 University of Tampa in a three-game series at Drysdale Field. The series starts Friday night at 6 p.m.
