Saints send seniors and Coach Clark out with a win

ST. AUGUSTINE – Vaughn McCall poured in a career-high 30 points to help Flagler College post a 101-86 victory over Armstrong State University on "Senior Night" in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler closes out its season with a 10-16 overall record and a 4-15 mark in the Peach Belt. Armstrong State, with the loss, was eliminated from tournament contention and ended its season with an 11-17 overall record and a 6-13 mark in conference play.

The Saints used a late 16-6 run to pull away from the Pirates. McCall's driving layup with 4:09 left in the game started the run while Jeffercy Jean capped it by making the first of two free throws to give Flagler a 99-81 lead with 1:25 remaining.

McCall made 10-of-18 from the field and was 9-of-11 from the free throw line. He also tallied six assists. Jean smashed his career-high with 29 points tonight and he completed his fifth double-double with 10 rebounds. He narrowly missed a triple-double as Jean tallied seven assists. Cortlin Davis added 16 points and six rebounds while Kessler Bell, playing in his final game, chipped in with 10 points.

Flagler shot 54.4 percent (37-68) from the field for the game and shot a red-hot 58.6 percent (17-29) in the second half alone. The Saints dominated in the paint, out-scoring the Pirates 50-34.

Corey Tillery led the Pirates with 28 points as he sank six 3-pointers. He broke Armstrong's single-season 3-point record. Kalen Clifton added 18 points and seven rebounds while Denzel Council tacked on 16 points and seven rebounds. Jamison Jeffers tallied 11 points and five assists.

Prior to the game Flagler honored its two seniors: Bell and Cade Muckle. Muckle will graduate next fall. The game also marked the finale for head coach Bo Clark who coached at Flagler for 31 years. He amassed an overall record of 491-378.
