Saints season ends on a goal in the last minute of play

ST. AUGUSTINE – Karl Addie, Jr. picked the right time to score his first collegiate goal of the season as he headed in a ball with 55 seconds left in regulation. The goal sent Clayton State University on to the semifinals with a 1-0 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinal Tuesday evening at Saints Field.

Clayton State, the No. 5 seed, snapped a three-match winless streak (0-2-1) to improve to 8-8-1. The Lakers avenged a loss to the Saints last Saturday, 2-1, when the Saints scored on a header with 55 seconds left. Clayton State will now face No. 1 Lander University on Friday (Nov. 3) at 5 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia. Flagler's season ends with a record of 5-9-1.

Dean Foster, who took his second consecutive corner kick, lobbed a pass towards the back post and Addie, Jr., skied above the mass of players in the box and headed the ball down and into the back of the net.

Quam Salami had Flagler's two shots on frame.

Oliver Pannell recorded two saves to notch his second shutout of the season. Iwan Roberts tallied one save for the Saints.

Both teams had eight shots and Clayton State held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lakers were whistled for 18 fouls while the Saints had 14.
