FLORENCE, S.C. – The Flagler College baseball season came to a close Saturday afternoon after an 11-2 loss to the University of Montevallo at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Sparrow Stadium.
Flagler finished its season with a 30-20 overall record marking the first time since the 2005 and 2006 seasons as the last time Flagler posted consecutive 30-win seasons until now. The Saints posted a 1-2 record in Pool B. Montevallo also ended its season today with a 28-25 overall record and went 2-1 in Pool B. The Falcons can tie Lander University for first place in the pool if Lander loses tonight, but they lose the tiebreaker as Lander defeated Montevallo 6-5 yesterday.
The Falcons scored all the runs they needed in the first inning. Montevallo sent nine batters to the plate, collected five hits and scored five runs.
Taylor Walker hit a two-run home run to left-center to stake the Falcons to an early 2-0 lead. Later, Jack Mayo hit a two-run single to left field to cap the scoring.
The Saints got one run back in the bottom of the first. The first two batters drew walks and
Igor Baez was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.
James Jean got hit on a 1-0 pitch to score Flagler's first run. It was the 16
th time this year Jean was hit by a pitch, which winds up falling two short of tying the school's single-season record.
In the eighth inning,
Frankie Sagarese hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 8-2.
With the game having no bearing on the championship game tomorrow, both teams substituted liberally. The teams combined to throw 13 different pitchers.
Landon Smith (3-2) was credited with the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
Walker led the 18-hit Falcon attack with three hits (two singles and the home run), three runs scored and two runs batted in. Thomas Bradley went 3-for-4 with a triple, one home run and four RBI. Mayo collected three singles, drove in two runs and scored another.
Dustin Dye (5-6) started and pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowed five hits and five runs.
Jordan Doyle followed and tossed the next 4.1 innings, allowed four hits and two runs with four strikeouts.

Baez hit a double for the Saints.
Kolin McMillen hit a single in the ninth inning to finish the season with a 13-game hitting streak and he reached base safely in the last 31 games. He finished with a .405 batting average, the highest average a Flagler player has hit since the 2001 season when Sean Roach hit .408.
Several Flagler players will be waiting to hear their name called during the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft which will be held June 9-11.
