PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of North Carolina Pembroke scored three runs in two different innings in route to a 7-2 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Sammy Cox Field.
UNC Pembroke has won four of its last five games and improved to 11-4 overall and they evened their Peach Belt record at 2-2. Flagler fell to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
The Braves did damage early as Roberto Rivera and Nick Debo hit back-to-back singles in the first inning. Justin Dattilo followed with a bunt single to load the bases. Then, on a 2-2 count, Stibel Aleman Saba reached first base on a catcher's interference which scored Rivera from third. Two batters later, Christian Snider singled to right-center to plate two more runs.
That was just enough offense for Braves starter Jesse Stinnett (3-0). He tossed 7.1 innings and scattered four hits and allowed two unearned runs. He walked three and struck out seven.
Debo belted a three-run homer in the fourth for insurance.
Rivera led the 13-hit attack with three singles and he scored two runs. Debo went 2-for-4 with the home run and scored twice. Snider singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Nick Salisbury also had a single and a double, but scored one run. Dattilo singled twice and scored a run.
Mike O'Reilly (3-2) tossed five innings and allowed 10 hits and five earned runs. He struck out eight batters.
Michael Hanke and
Ryan Ashworth also pitched for the Saints.
Cole Ondrejka collected two singles and knocked in a run for the Saints.
Kolin McMillen scored both of Flagler's runs.
The same two teams meet tomorrow (March 5) at 2 p.m.
