Flagler routs Eckerd, 16-2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Flagler College pounded out 19 hits and scored nine runs in the sixth inning to rout Eckerd College 16-2 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Flagler extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 15-11 overall. Eckerd fell to 9-11 overall. The game was a make-up of a doubleheader that was rained out back on Feb. 6.

The Saints wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. Frankie Sagarese hit a one-out double in the second inning and came around to score on a double by Dylan Jones to score the first run of the game. Jones was driven home on a single by Cole Ondrejka.

In the third, Nick Oberg doubled down the left field line off reliever Nick Alonzo. He scored on Sagrese's single up the middle which gave the Saints a 3-0 lead.

Flagler added three more runs in the fifth before erupting for nine in the sixth. The Saints sent 13 men to the plate and had six hits. James Jean had the big hit of the inning, a grand slam to left field. Ondrejka added a two-run double later in the frame.

Luke Cooksey (2-0) tossed five scoreless innings to pick up the win on the hill for Flagler. He allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out five batters. Jordan Doyle, Matt Wynne, Chris Lake, Dante Pagano and MacLain Larson all saw time on the mound in relief.

Every Flagler starter had at least one hit. Jean went 2-for-5 with a double to go along with the grand slam and he scored two runs. Ondrejka went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Sagarese went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and he scored a run. Jabe Molinaro went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Kolin McMillen went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Baez singled twice, scored two times and knocked in another run. Oberg finshed with a single, a double and scored two runs.

Lucas  Spetsas ((0-1) tossed two innings, allowed four hits, two runs and walked three. The Tritons used eight different pitchers.

Zach Mitsmenn came off the bench to collect a pair of singles and he drove in the first Eckerd run in the seventh.

Flagler will host No. 17 (Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 25) Columbus State University in a three-game weekend series, starting with a single game Friday (March 25) at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
