McCall and Gray combine for 50 points to lead Flagler to victory

ST. AUGUSTINE – Vaughn McCall and Keith Gray combined to score 50 points to Flagler College to an 88-80 win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler extends its winning streak to two games and improved to 8-16 overall and 3-12 in the Peach Belt. The Saints snapped a six-game losing streak to the Jaguars with the win tonight. Augusta lost its third game in a row and dropped to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

The Saints used a big 10-0 run with four minutes to go in the game to break a 69-all tie. Jeffercy Jean ignited the run with a ferocious left-handed dunk. Matt Clark gathered a rebound off of a missed shot the next time down the court and drained an open 3-pointer and the Saints rode the momentum.

Augusta was able to trim the lead down to three points on two separate occasions, but couldn't get over the hump.

McCall scored a season-high 26 points with the help of three 3-pointers and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Keith Gray scored all of his 24 points in the second half on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. He made all 10 free throw attempts and grabbed seven rebounds. Clark tallied 10 points and dished out seven assists. Jean finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Saints shot 50% (29-58) from the field for the game.

Keshun Sherrill scored 17 of his team-high 22 points in the second half to lead the Jaguars. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Tamyrik Fields scored 20 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field. Tommy Williams chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Flagler plays its final home game of the season on Saturday (Feb. 13) against Lander University at 3:30 p.m.
