MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College closed the first half with a 30-9 run en route to defeating Flagler College 88-64 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
Georgia College snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 6-4 overall and evened its Peach Belt record at 1-1. Flagler fell to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Saints raced out to an 8-2 lead and then took a 20-10 lead after a
Cortlin Davis layup with 10:19 left in the first half. From that point it was all Georgia College. Desmond Mitchell-LaFlam followed Davis' layup with one of his own which started the run that spanned 9:31.
The Bobcats shot an unconscious 68.8% (11-16) from the field in the run and they sank five 3-pointers. The Saints were limited to 20% (3-15) shooting from the field.
Mark McCorkle came off of the bench to lead the Bobcats with 15 points, all of which came on 3-pointers. Another reserve, Austin Dukes, deposited 14 points and tallied four assists. Isaac Thomas added 13 points. Chaz Berry grabbed 10 rebounds for Georgia College and tacked on seven points. Mitchell-LaFlam tallied five assists.
Georgia College outscored Flagler in the paint 36-10. The Bobcats shot 52.3% (34-65) from the field in the game. They shot 57.6% (19-33) in the second half alone.
Jeffercy Jean poured in a game-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Saints.
Cortlin Davis added 18 points and five rebounds while
Chris Williams recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
The 35.8% (24-67) field goal percentage was a season-low for Flagler.
Flagler will return to action on Jan. 4 when it hosts the University of North Georgia at 7 p.m.
NOTE: Flagler made its debut in the D2SIDA Southeast Region poll on Monday. The Saints were ranked No. 9 in the 10-team poll. The Saints have not been ranked in a regional or national poll since joining NCAA Division II.
