MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Megan Hooks recorded a match-high 12 kills and hit .360 to help lead No. 1-seed Flagler College to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-10) sweep over No. 8-seed Columbus State University in the first quarterfinal of the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament Friday morning at the Centennial Center.
Flagler won its 10
th match in a row and improved to 21-6 overall. The Saints advance to Saturday's quarterfinal at 2 p.m. and will face the winner of the Lander University-Francis Marion University match. Columbus State's season ends with a 15-14 record.
Hooks only had three errors on 25 swings to lead the Saints.
Taja Valmyr, last year's tournament most valuable player, recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Sara Davis added eight kills and two block assists.
Tara Savisky tallied 33 assists while
Kayla Norelli collected a match-high 22 digs. Valmyr, Norelli and
Rachel Porada each had two service aces.
Ashley Cheewah collected four block assists to go along with seven kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
Zoemy Barreto Pereira and Mary McCarty each added eight kills for the Lady Cougars. Abby King tallied 21 assists while McCarty had 10 digs.
Flagler held Columbus State to a .078 hitting percentage. The Lady Cougars committed 17 hitting errors on 103 swings and the Saints recorded six total team blocks.
Flagler is a perfect 8-0 in PBC Tournament quarterfinal matches since joining the league in 2009.
