Saints fall to Braves in double overtime, 3-2

ST. AUGUSTINE – Johannus Cuarezma scored the game-winning goal in double overtime giving the University of North Carolina Pembroke a 3-2 win over Flagler College Monday afternoon at Saints Field in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match.
 
The Saints dropped to 5-7-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the conference play and the Braves improved to 5-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference. The win was UNC Pembroke's first against Flagler in its history.
 
Cuarezma connected on a corner kick by Izzy Evans to lift the Braves over the Saints with 35 seconds left in the match.
 
Flagler jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Jackie Kay scored on a header in the 27th minute and Eamonn Moore notched a goal in the 54th minute. Both goals came off of corner kicks with Juan Membreno earning the assists.
 
Jordan Walshaw poured in two unanswered goals for UNC Pembroke in the 76th and 80th minute to even the score. Walshaw has 13 goals this season ranking 15th in the nation. He took nine shots, six on goal.
 
Eamonn Morre and Kay each put two shots on goal for the Saints while Membreno took four shots.
 
Lex Craggs and Lucas Gusmao each recorded five saves in the match. Flagler tallied 19 shots and UNC Pembroke rattled off 14, but the Saints committed 23 fouls while the Braves were called for 10.
 
Flagler will host Francis Marion University in the final regular season home match at Saints Field on Wednesday (Oct. 16) at 7:30 p.m.
