No. 24 Young Harris uses first half surge to top Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE – The nationally-ranked Young Harris Mountain Lions powered out three goals in the first half to stay perfect in Peach Belt Conference play and claim a 3-1 victory over the Flagler College men's soccer team on Saturday night at Saints Field.

Young Harris (6-1-0, 3-0-0) opened up the match with an explosive offensive attack. The Mountain Lions took advantage of a foul in the box scoring their first goal on a good penalty kick from Alex Wyper at the 12:55 mark. The offense continued for the visitors, as the Mountain Lions scored two goals in the 22nd minute. The first score came off a cross from Lewis Hilton, as Marco Micaletto drilled it into the back of the net, and 25 seconds later Mikie Rowe tallied his fourth goal of the season with a header with an assist from Tom Joslin.

Samba Diop saved the Saints (2-2-1, 2-1-0) from a shutout with a goal in the 78th minute. Diop connected with Nemanja Damjanovic's pass to send the ball past the Young Harris keeper for the only score of the second half.

Both teams collected over 20 fouls apiece in an aggressive contest that saw a combined seven yellow cards. Young Harris took the advantage in shots and corner kicks, with 17 and eight, respectively. The Saints totaled eight shots throughout the contest.

Jordan Brandshaw saw 90 minutes of action in goal for Young Harris, collecting three saves along the way. Flagler started the game with Lex Craggs between the pipes, who recorded nine saves in 72:38 minutes of work while Joey LaSala finished the final 17:22.

Flagler will look to rebound on Wednesday when the team heads to Americus, Georgia, for a midweek tilt against Georgia Southwestern (1-4-2, 0-1-1).
