No. 22 Flagler’s season comes to an end with 10-8 loss

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken scored six runs in third inning to rally past No. 22 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30) Flagler College 10-8 in a quarterfinal game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Golden Park.

USC Aiken (34-16) advances to play in the semifinal at 7 p.m. against Georgia College who upset the top-seed in the tournament, University of North Georgia, earlier. Flagler ends its season at 32-15.

Sean Miller had the key hit, a three-run double to left-center.

Trailing 9-4 in seventh, Lorenzo Butler and Nick Kranick hit RBI singles to help the Saints trim the deficit to 9-7.

Flagler had the tying run at the plate in the ninth when Kranick came up to bat with a runner on, trailing, 10-8. He belted a shot to right-center that was tracked down and the final rally by the Saints came up just short.

Forrest Koumas (6-2) tossed six-plus innings, scattered four hits, allowed four earned runs, walked four and struck out eight batters to earn the win. Joe Marlow recorded his first save as he tossed three innings, allowed one and struck out three.

Miller went 2-for-5 with a double, four runs batted in and he scored a run. Ty Barkell went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and he knocked in another.

Mike O'Reilly (7-3) took the loss after tossing 2.2 innings, surrendered six hits, seven runs, walked five and struck out three. Danny Brown closed out the game.

Butler had two singles, two RBI and scored a run for the Saints.
