No. 8 North Georgia sweeps Flagler

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – No. 8 (NFCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College, 8-0 and 2-1, Friday afternoon at Hill Stadium.

North Georgia extended its winning streak to six games and improved to 26-6 overall and 6-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 7-26 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

In the opener, Courtney Poole (18-1) tossed a two-hit shutout in a game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. She struck out three batters and retired nine on fly outs.

Victoria Prince went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base to lead the Nighthawks. Meredith Heyer ended the game with a two-run double.

Mallory Allen (0-1) tossed three innings, allowed two hits and three runs in her debut in the circle.

Mackenzie Conley and Maddy Murphy each collected a single for the Saints.

In game two, Flagler's Kelli Parker led off the game with a triple and then scored on Lauren Roudabush's ground out to stake Flagler to a 1-0 lead.

However, Roudabush was the start of 21 consecutive retired batters by Poole (19-1) who faced just one over the minimum as she struck out three batters.

North Georgia tied the game in the fourth inning when Morgan Beshears was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

In the sixth, Katie Block led off the inning for the Nighthawks by reaching first on an error. She was bunted over to second base and then scored on a single by Tiffanie Burns to put North Georgia ahead, 2-1.

Four different UNG players collected one single.

Haleigh Corbally (2-6) went the distance for the Saints and allowed four hits and one earned run. She walked two and fanned five.

Flagler plays host to Palm Beach Atlantic University on Friday (March 27) at 3 p.m. at Flagler Field.
