Saints end season with 64-54 triumph over Pirates

ST. AUGUSTINE – Treva Mason, playing in her final game at Flagler College, scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds in a season-ending 64-54 win over Armstrong State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler closed the season with two consecutive wins to finish 9-17 overall and 6-13 in the PBC. Armstrong had its two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 13-13 overall and 11-8 in conference play. The Pirates move on to the quarterfinals where they will travel to and face the University of North Georgia on Saturday (Feb. 28).

Teosha Ray added 12 points and five rebounds for the Saints. DeAsha Campbell tallied eight points and tied a season-high with nine rebounds. Allie Mano came off the bench to provide eight points. Rodnecia Brown contributed four points, three rebounds and three steals in her final game.

The Saints forced 20 Pirate turnovers and turned those into 19 points.
 
Amber Howell led the Pirates with a game-high 19 point on 8 of 12 shooting from the field. Alexia Somerset added nine points and seven rebounds while Brigitta Barta tacked on nine points, five rebounds and three steals.
 
Flagler used a 22-4 run that started in midway through the second half to rally past Armstrong. Ray started the run with a traditional three-point play with a layup and the additional free throw with 9:56 left in the game to cut the Pirate lead to 46-42. The Saints capped the run with 12 consecutive points under the six-minute mark to pull away with a 61-50 lead with just under two minutes to play.
