ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 18 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 Poll) Flagler College rolled to a 10-1 win over Rollins College in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler extended its winning streak to nine games and improved to 12-1 overall, tying the program's best start ever (2001). Rollins suffered its fourth straight loss and fell to 5-8 on the season.
The Saints wasted little time in getting on the board as
Andrew Brodbeck belted his first home run of the season, a solo shot, in the bottom of the first.
Nick Kranick followed with a double to right-center and later scored on
Shawn Hendon's single to left to put Flagler on top, 2-0.
That would be all the offense
Nathaniel Abel (1-0) would need. In just his second appearance of the season, he tossed seven scoreless innings, scattered two hits and fanned 11 batters. Abel struck out eight of the first 11 batters he faced and retired the first 14 batters in order. Only an infield single in the fifth broke up the no-hit bid.
The Saints plated three more runs in the third, one more in the fifth, another in the seventh, before adding three in the eighth inning.
Brodbeck finished with a double and two home runs, scored five runs and collected five runs batted in.
Lorenzo Butler went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while
Igor Baez collected two singles and scored a run.
Skip Kovar and Grant Ashline each singled for the Tars.
Brandon Burgess (0-1) started and tossed 2.1 innings. He allowed six hits and five runs.
Flagler heads out on the road for a three-game series this weekend at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. The series begins Saturday (Feb. 28) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
