COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Sara Davis recorded a team-high 12 kills, hit .524, had four aces and three total blocks to help lead Flagler College to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-15) win over Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Student Recreation Center.
Flagler improved to 19-6 overall and 12-4 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State lost its fourth match in a row and fell to 4-24 overall and 1-15 in conference play.
The Saints offensive attack was spread around this afternoon. On top of Davis' day,
Taja Valmyr recorded 11 kills and had five total blocks while
Ashley Cheewah contributed eight kills and five total blocks.
Genel Sturgeon chipped in with eight kills and two total blocks and
Rachel Bryant added six kills.
Tara Savisky recorded her 13
th double-double of the season with 44 assists and 11 digs.
Caitlyn Kovach paced the defense with a match-high 26 digs and also had two aces.
Flagler's .286 hitting percentage was its best of the season since hitting .287 the last time the same two teams met in Flagler Gymnasium on Oct. 9.
Megan Frame recorded a match-high 14 kills, hit .333, collected eight digs and had three total blocks to lead the Lady Cougars. Kylie Beaublien added nine kills. Cori Ehmen tallied 35 assists and Caytlin Merritt collected 17 digs.
Columbus State hit .306 in the first set, which helped the Lady Cougars earn a 25-22 win. But the other three sets, the Lady Cougars hit below .100.
Flagler closes out the regular season at home this upcoming weekend. The conference leader, the University of South Carolina Aiken, pays a visit to Flagler Gym on Friday (Nov. 13) at 7 p.m.
