Flagler’s season ends with 2-1 loss at No. 17 North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – No. 17 (NSCAA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia scored two early goals to defeat Flagler College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament women's soccer quarterfinal match Tuesday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.

North Georgia improved to 14-2-1 overall while Flagler finished its season with an 8-6-2 record. North Georgia advances to the semifinals on Friday (Nov. 6) where it will face Armstrong State University at 2 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia.

The eight wins by Flagler was the most the program has recorded since 2011 (9) and that year was the last time the Saints won as many as five conference matches.

Jess Fassnidge got the Saints on the board with a goal in the 29th minute. Katie Reed served a ball to the top of the box where Makensie Danaher re-directed the ball to Fassnidge who scored into the left corner of the goal.

But the Nighthawks got off to an early start as Rachel VanHorn rifled a shot past Racheal Cecil in the fourth minute. Jade Pennock lobbed a pass over a Flagler defender to VanHorn whose shot went through Cecil's hands.

In the 21st minute, Jacy Ramey scored an insurance goal as she knocked in Megan Gil's cross.

Mallory Sayre tallied one save for North Georgia while Cecil recorded six for Flagler.

The Nighthawks out-shot the Saints 20-3 and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
