FLORENCE, S.C. –
Treva Mason scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Francis Marion University used a balanced scoring attack to down Flagler College 68-52 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at the Smith University Center.
Francis Marion improved to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its five-game winning streak against Francis Marion snapped and the Saints fell to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
The Patriots opened the game on a 13-2 run and never looked back. Francis Marion led at the half 37-22 and shot 45.2% (14-31) from the field. The Patriots finished the game with a 41.5% (27-65) mark from the floor. They also induced 28 turnovers which were cashed in for 25 points. Francis Marion tallied 22 assists and 17 steals.
Alaysia Watts was one of four Francis Marion players to score in double figures with 11 points. She added five rebounds in a reserve role. Khayani Chandler contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals while Stephanie Brown was a perfect 5 for 5 from the field for 10 points and she added four rebounds. Cy'erra Mills checked in with 10 points, five steals and four assists. Briana Burgins grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Mason made 7 of her 11 shots from the field for the Saints. She also collected eight offensive rebounds.
Teosha Ray added 13 points while
Rodnecia Brown chipped in with seven points and tallied five assists.
Parker Nayman grabbed 10 rebounds.
Flagler returns home for another Peach Belt Conference game on Saturday (Jan. 10) against the University of South Carolina Aiken at 1:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium. The same two teams squared off last Monday with USC Aiken winning 61-53.
