Treva Mason recorded her second double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to help lead Flagler College to a hard-fought 76-65 win over Ave Maria University in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler recorded its first win of the season to improve to 1-3. Ave Maria, a member of the NAIA, slipped to 4-3.
Mason did the bulk of her work in the first half where she scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Mason finished 9 of 11 from the field.
Alex Alford scored a season-high 17 points on 7- of 12 shooting which included knocking down three 3-pointers.
DeAsha Campbell dished out a game-high nine assists.
Rodnecia Brown came off the bench to add nine points.
Flagler shot 49.2% (32-65) from the field and sank five 3-pointers. The defense forced 23 turnovers which they cashed in for 16 points. The Saints held a 30-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Annie Artise recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Gyrenes. Madison McDonald added another 15 points while Yvanessa Vincent chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Flagler returns to the court on Wednesday (Nov. 26) with a pre-Thanksgiving game against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
