ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College played its second game in less than 24 hours and managed to use a second half surge to put away a stubborn Florida College side 83-67 in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 2-0 on the season while Florida College, located in Temple Terrace, fell to 2-11.
Flagler's
Jerrell Oxendine netted a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers in the game. He made 8 of his 15 shots from the field and drained five treys. Oxendine added seven assists as well as six rebounds.
Lydell Manigo contributed 14 points and six rebounds.
Desmond Gibson added 13 points and six rebounds while
Dennis Diaz tallied 13 points.
Matt Clark also dished out seven assists.
Flagler shot 45.5% (30-66) from the field for the game which included a 51-5% (17-33) mark in the first half. The Saints out-rebounded the Falcons 44-32 and converted 15 offensive rebounds into 20 second chance points.
McMichael Jamison and Dennis Gravely each scored 16 points for Florida College. Jamison grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
The Falcons sank 82.4% (14-17) of their free throw attempts.
Flagler held a slim 45-39 lead at the half, but an early 12-0 run by Florida College in the second half gave the Falcons a 51-47 lead with 14:25 left to go. A pair of Oxendine 3-pointers tied the game at 53 and helped spark an 18-4 run over the next 4:51 and the Saints never looked back.
Flagler plays host to the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Monday (Nov. 24) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
