Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – Matt Conway tied his season-high with 19 points but it wasn't enough as Columbus State University had just enough to hold off Flagler College and earn an 80-74 victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Columbus State snapped a three-game losing streak and evened its overall record at 8-8 and moved to 3-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its four-game winning streak snapped and leveled its overall record to 8-8 and dropped to 4-5 in conference play.

Idell Bell led the Cougars with 16 points while Jahmad Saleem added 14 points, four rebounds and four assists. Rory Miller chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds while Jermaine Morgan tacked on 11 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Columbus State out-rebounded Flagler 39-31 and enjoyed a 28-12 advantage in scoring in the paint. The Cougars forced 15 Saints turnovers which they converted into 18 points.

Conway made 7-of-his-12 shots from the field and sank five 3-pointers. Matt Clark scored 12 of his 16 points in the first half and made four 3-pointers, all in the first half. Ante Gospic tallied 11 points and seven rebounds. Richard Brown handed out seven assists and added six points.

The game was close throughout and neither team had a lead larger than seven points. There were nine ties and 16 lead changes. Flagler took a 40-39 lead at the half on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Ryan Barnes.

However, the Cougars closed the game on a 12-4 run over the final five-plus minutes in the game. A jumper by Miller with 5:16 left tied the game at 70 and Columbus State took the lead for good when Bell drove the lane and made a layup with 4:04 left. Flagler made just 2-of-its-7 shots from the field in the last five minutes.

Flagler will travel to Greenwood, S.C., to take on East Division rival Lander University on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 3:30 p.m.
