Clark pours in 20 as Flagler rallies past Augusta State

Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – Matt Clark scored 14 of his team-high 20 points in the second half to help rally Flagler College past Augusta State University 73-70 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Thursday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Flagler won its third game in a row and improved to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the Peach Belt. The Saints have won their last three games by a total of seven points. Flagler's win at Augusta State was the first time the Saints have defeated the Jaguars on the road in four tries. Augusta State fell to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Clark made 6-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Ante Gospic added 19 points and nine rebounds while Adam Jones contributed 14 points and five assists. Jones made 6-of-7 from the field. Richard Brown chipped in with 11 points and dished out six assists.

Flagler shot 51% (26-51) from the field for the game and shot a blistering 70.8% (17-24) in the second half alone.

Devonte Thomas came off of the bench to score a game-high 27 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. He made 5-of-12 shots from 3-point range. Devon Wright-Nelson added 12 points and eight rebounds. D'Angelo Boyce dished out a game-high eight assists.

After a Gospic layup gave the Saints the lead at the beginning of the game, the Jaguars led for the majority of the game, including holding a 30-22 lead at the half.

Flagler chipped away and took its first lead (54-52) after a Jones layup with 6:23 left to play. Augusta State countered and re-took the lead, but Flagler  took the lead for good (63-61) after a Jones layup with 2:59 left.

A pair of Wright-Nelson free throws cut the Jaguar deficit to one point (71-70), but Jarrod Branco sank two free throws with three seconds left and a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer by Augusta State rimmed out.

Flagler will host Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday (Jan. 19) at 3:30 p.m.
