ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler avenged one of its losses tonight with an 80-71 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Armstrong rolled to a 111-81 win in Savannah on Dec. 3, but a much different outcome befell the Pirates tonight. Flagler won its first home game since a Nov. 29 victory over Lynn, a span of six home games. Flagler improved to 8-13 overall and 2-12 in conference play. Armstrong has now lost two of its last three games and dropped to 10-12 overall and 6-8 in league play.

A J.C. Winn layup gave the Pirates a 13-9 lead, but the Saints would score the next 10 points in a span of 1:57 to seize control of the game and take a lead they would not relinquish. A Desmond Gibson (Havana, Fla., James S. Rickards HS) dunk tied the game at 13 and then Ryan Barnes (Oviedo, Fla., Newberry College) sank a 3-pointer to give Flagler the lead for good.

The Saints held a 37-28 lead at the half and would extend the gap to as many as 16 (62-46) with 8:12 left to play after a traditional 3-point play by Chad July.

Flagler forced 19 Armstrong turnovers which led to 21 points. The Saints held the Pirates to 38.8% (26-67) shooting from the field and 27.8% (10-36) shooting from 3-point range.

Ante Gospic (Zadar, Croatia, Polk State College) tallied 16 points for the Saints. Barnes also tallied 16 points and sank five 3-pointers. Matt Clark tacked on 15 points and had four steals. Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Grant Domsic came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points, aided by 4-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Chris Vanlandingham added 15 points while Keyshore Williams recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Flagler hosts Lander University on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 3:30 p.m. in another Peach Belt Conference tilt a Flagler Gymnasium.
