Strong second half propels FMU past Flagler, 103-68

FLORENCE, S.C. – Liki Turner led five players in double figures with a game-high 26 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to help lead Francis Marion to a 103-68 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Smith University Center.

Francis Marion snapped its two-game losing streak and improved to 15-11 overall and 8-8 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 9-15 overall and 2-14 in conference play.

Turner made 9-of-13 shots from the field and was 7-for-10 from the free throw line. Marcus Wright added 17 points on the strength of 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Zamarius McLendon supplied 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Patriots. Clayton Williams came off the bench to added 14 points while Darryn Frazier tacked on 12 more.

Francis Marion shot 52.4% (33-63) from the field in the game, including a blistering 60.7% (17-28) in the second half. The Patriots out-rebounded the Saints 52-37.

Jarrod Branco (Hudson, Fla., Hudson HS) tallied a team-high 16 points. Matt Clark (St. Augustine, Fla., St. Augustine HS) chipped in with 13 points and Addison Smith (West Palm Beach, Fla., College of Central Florida) added 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 night from the field. Ante Gospic (Zadar, Croatia, Polk State College) corralled a team-high seven rebounds.

The Patriots held a 53-44 lead at the half and opened the second half on a 16-5 tear to pull away from the Saints.

Flagler will play its last Peach Belt road game of the season tomorrow (Feb. 19) at 3:30 p.m. against UNC Pembroke.
