ST. AUGUSTINE – Dwight Tolbert scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to help lead Lander University to an 80-62 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Lander won its third game in a row and improved to 15-7 overall and 8-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 8-14 overall and 2-13 in league play.

Tolbert made 9-of-15 from the field and was 6-of-10 from 3-point range. Jermel Kennedy recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Dennis Rumph added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Bearcats. Corey Wright handed out a game-high eight assists.

Lander shot 51.9% (14-27) from the field in the second half. The Bearcats made 17-of-21 free throw attempts (81%).

Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) recorded his ninth double-double of the season, and second consecutive, with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Ante Gospic (Zadar, Croatia, Polk State College) added 13 points and nine rebounds while Matt Clark (St. Augustine, Fla., St. Augustine HS) chipped in with 12 points and a game-high four steals. Desmond Gibson (Havana, Fla., James S. Rickards HS) came off the bench to provide 10 points.

Lander nearly led throughout and went to the locker rooms with a slim 40-36 lead.

The Bearcats went on a 12-2 run to break the game open at the start of the second half.

Flagler hosts Trinity Bible College of Jacksonville on Tuesday (Feb. 14) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
