ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler trailed by as many as 19 points and by only three with 39 seconds left, but the rally came up short in a 74-66 loss to Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Georgia College snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its sixth consecutive game and fell to 6-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.

Quin Bivins came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points and sank six three-pointers for the Bobcats. Scott Ferguson added 15 points while Jared Holmes tallied 14. Ryan Aquino recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Georgia College held Flagler to 29.6% (8-27) shooting in the first half and held a 37-22 at the break.

Matt Clark (St. Augustine, Fla., St. Augustine HS) scored a team-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Ryan Barnes (Oviedo, Fla., Newberry College) added 14 points while Jarrod Branco (Hudson, Fla., Hudson HS) tacked on 12 points and six rebounds. Addison Smith (West Palm Beach, Fla., College of Central Florida) led the Saints with eight rebounds and handed out four assists.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 22-6 lead, but the Saints went on a 13-0 run over a 2:29 span to get back into the game 22-19. Georgia College answered with 11 consecutive points in the next 2:52 to take a 33-19 lead. Six of those 11 points came from the free throw line.

Holmes sank a jumper with 15:28 left in the game to give the Bobcats their largest lead, 51-32. But a Smith jumper started a Flagler 13-2 spurt to climb back into the contest. A 6-foot jumper by Justin Stokes cut the deficit to eight (53-45) with 11:29 left.

Holmes sank a pair of free throw to give Georgia College a 63-51 lead with five minutes to go, but Clark sank a 3-pointer to start a 12-3 run by Flagler. Barnes ended the run with a 3-pointer and the Saints trailed by only three (66-63) with 1:04 left. But that would be as close as Flagler would get.

Flagler will host Francis Marion University on Wednesday (Jan. 11) at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
