AUGUSTA, Ga. – George Johnson scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to help lead No. 11 (NABC/Division II Top 25) Augusta State University to a 68-54 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Augusta State improved to 23-3 overall and 13-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its 11th game in a row and fell to 9-14 overall and 3-12 in conference play.

Johnson made 6-of-13 from the field and made four 3-pointers. Franck Ndongo recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Augusta State forced 11 Flagler turnovers and traded those in for 18 points. The Jaguars made the most of their nine offensive rebounds as they scored 11 second chance points.

Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half and Eddie Fowler (Deltona, Fla., Pasco-Hernando CC) also tallied 15 points. Kenny Moore (Vero Beach, Fla., Vero Beach HS) contributed 11 points and six rebounds before fouling out. D.J. Ferguson (Orlando, Fla., Bishop Moore Catholic HS) dished out a game-high nine rebounds.

Flagler was held to a season-low 27 rebounds, including just three offensive rebounds. The Saints held a 28-14 edge in points in the paint.

Augusta State used an 18-1 run midway through the first half to build a 25-9 lead. The Jaguar lead swelled to as many as 20 (41-21) with 51 seconds left in the half. Augusta State took a 43-26 lead into the half.

The Saints chipped away at the deficit and pulled to with four points (56-52) after John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla., New Hampton Prep (N.H.)) sank a 3-pointer with 5:50 left to go. Flagler could not get any closer. The Saints went 1-for-6 from the field in the last 5:49. The Jaguars went 10-for-12 from the free throw line with less than five minutes to go. Augusta State is ranked second in Division II in free throw shooting, averaging 80%. The Jaguars made 81.5% (22-27).
