NC State defats Flagler in 102-61 exhibition win

RALEIGH, N.C. – Scott Wood led five players in double figures with a game-high 24 points to help lead NC State to a 102-61 victory over Flagler College in a men's basketball exhibition game Monday night at the RBC Center.

Wood connected on 6-of-8 shots from behind the 3-point line to pace the Wolfpack. C.J. Leslie came off the bench to provide 16 points and five rebounds while C.J. Williams, DeShawn Painter and Tyler Harris each added 10 points. Painter made 5-of-6 from the field and blocked three shots. Harris made 4-of-5 from the floor. Richard Howell corralled a game-high seven rebounds and added a pair of blocks. Lorenzo Brown handed out eight assists.

The Wolfpack shot 56.9% from the floor for the game, including at a 61.3% clip in the first half. NC State knocked down eight 3-pointers in the first half. NC State held a 40-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 31-14 edge in points off turnovers. The Wolfpack forced 21 turnovers and blocked nine shots. NC State also scored 31 points in transition.

Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) led Flagler with 12 points and six rebounds while Matt Clark (St. Augustine, Fla., St. Augustine HS) came off the bench to added 12 points. Addison Smith (West Palm Beach, Fla., College of Central Florida) tallied 10 points and had a game-high seven steals.

Flagler shot 35.4% from the floor and made 2-of-14 shots (14.3%) from behind the arc.

A July layup on a fast break cut the NC State lead to one (12-11) with 13:58 left in the opening half. Leslie had back-to-back dunks which ignited a 16-4 run by the Wolfpack over the next 4:50.

NC State maintained a double-digit lead for the almost the rest of the first half and took a 51-37 lead into the locker room.

A dunk by Jordan Warner (Tallahassee, Fla., FAMU HS) got Flagler right back into the game with 11:33 left. The Saints trailed 66-53.

But over the next 7:04, NC State blew the game open on a 23-2 run.

Flagler will open its season next Monday (Nov. 14) at 7 p.m. against former conference-rival Webber International University at Flagler Gymnasium.
