ST. AUGUSTINE – Ante Gospic (Zadar, Croatia, Polk State College) and Matt Clark (St. Augustine, Fla., St. Augustine HS) each tallied 19 points as Flagler College pulled away late to defeat Clearwater Christian College 83-61 in a non-conference men's basketball game Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 2-0 while Clearwater Christian fell to 1-3.

Gospic sank 8-of-his-13 shots from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Clark made 7-of-13, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Smith tallied 10 points and handed out eight assists.

Flagler shot 54.4% (31-57) from the field in the game, including 52.9% (18-34) in the first half.

Tristan Shore scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Bryan Spears grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and added five points. Matt Wells came off the bench to provide nine points.

The Saints opened the game on a 28-8 run and cruised into half time with a 41-17 lead. The Cougars struggled from the field shooting just 22.2% (6-27).

Flagler held its largest lead (43-19) after Gospic drained a 10-footer, but Clearwater Christian went on a 29-14 run over the next 10:05 to cut the deficit back to single digits (57-48), after a Devin Paularinne layup with 8:39 left. A Luke Brigham layup with 6:30 left cut the score to 63-55, but the Saints answered with a 16-2 run over the next 3:41 to put the game away.

Flagler will host Trinity College of Florida tomorrow (Nov. 19) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
