SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State University used a 28-6 run early in the second half en route to a 95-68 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday night at Alumni Arena.
Armstrong Atlantic improved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Chris Vanlandingham scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Jesse Wheeler added 13 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three assists for the Pirates. DeVon Jones and Keyshore Williams came off the bench to score 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Armstrong made 54.5% (36-66) of its field goals, including 57.1% (20-35) in the second half alone. Seven different Pirates made at least one 3-pointer. AASU outscored Flagler 17-2 in transition. All 11 Pirates who played in the game scored at least two points.
Kenny Moore (Vero Beach, Fla., Vero Beach HS) led Flagler with 17 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Moore scored 11-of-his-17 points in the second half.
John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla., New Hampton Prep (N.H.)) added 13 points while
Jamal McNeil (Winston Salem, N.C., Winston-Salem Prep) came off the bench to supply a season-high 12 points.
Flagler shot 55.6% (15-27) from the field in the first half, but struggled in the second half with a 35.55 (11-31) mark. The Saints only made one 3-pointer, the fewest made since Nov. 21, 2009 vs. West Florida.
The first half featured three ties and four lead changes. The Pirates had their biggest lead of the half, 25-16, after a pair of Jones free throws, but the Saints slowly chipped away and a Moore layup with 6:13 left cut the margin to two (35-33). McNeil added a pair of layups and
D.J. Ferguson (Orlando, Fla., Bishop Moore Catholic HS) hit a jumper and Flagler closed the half down by one, 40-39.

Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) free throws in the opening second of the second gave the Saints a 41-40 lead, but Vanlandingham would score the next six Armstrong Atlantic points to help spark a 28-6 run which covered the next 7:33. Flagler went 2-for-9 (22.2%) from the field in the run and committed seven turnovers. Conversely, AASU made 11-of-15 (73.3%) from the field.
