CLEVELAND, Ohio − Flagler College finished in 120th place in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings for NCAA Division II members, which was released Wednesday.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports – seven women's and seven men's.
Flagler tallied 61 points from its spring sports to complete the overall standings from all three seasons with 169 points. Both tennis teams garnered 25 points and the men's golf team added another 11 as all three competed in regional competition. The volleyball team recorded the most points (83) with its third place finish at the national tournament in the fall.
Last year, Flagler's first full season of Division II membership, the Saints tallied 50 points and finished tied for 198th. Both tennis teams were the lone sports to earn points.
Columbus State University earned the most points from a Peach Belt Conference member with 368.5 and finished in 39th place. Armstrong Atlantic State University is second, in 54th place with 303 points. Augusta State University followed in 66th place with 273 points and Francis Marion University came in 72nd place with 264. Georgia College &State University finished fifth among PBC members and tied for 90th place overall with 213 points. Lander University followed in 95th place with 210 and Flagler was next.
Sitting at the top of the standings is Grand Valley State University with 1,021.5 points on the strength of winning the women's soccer title and were national runners-up in women's cross country and football.
