Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE - John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla., New Hampton Prep (N.H.)) came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points to help rally Flagler College past Nova Southeastern University 85-76 in a non-conference men's basketball game Monday night at the Don Taft University Center.

Flagler raised its record to 5-0, its best start since the 1995-96 season when it went 6-0. Nova Southeastern fell to 3-2.

Pietkiewicz sank six 3-pointers and recorded five steals for the Saints. Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) added 19 points and six rebounds while Kenny Moore (Vero Beach, Fla., Vero Beach HS) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. D.J. Ferguson (Orlando, Fla., Bishop Moore Catholic HS) tallied 14 assists.

Flagler shot 49.3% from the field, including a 56.3% clip in the second half. The Saints out-rebounded the Sharks 38-26 and grabbed 18 offensive rebounds which led to 23 second chance points. Flagler dominated in the paint, out-scoring the Sharks 38-18.

John Brooks paced Nova Southeastern with 20 points. Alex Gynes added 18 points and seven rebounds while Robert Huntington came off the bench to contribute 10 points.

Flagler trailed the entire first half, and was down 43-38 at the half. Nova Southeastern took a 49-40 lead on a Gynes layup with 17:48 to go, but the Saints would score the next nine points to erase the deficit with Moore capping the run with an old-fashioned three-point play.

Flagler would seize control of the game after back-to-back 3-pointers by Ryan Barnes (Oviedo, Fla., Newberry College) erased a 65-62 NSU lead to put the Saints up 68-65 with 7:54 left. That sparked a 20-7 run by Flagler.

Flagler opens Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against seventh-ranked (NABC/Division II) USC Aiken at Flagler Gym.
