ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Ryan Barnes (Oviedo, Fla., Newberry College) scored a game-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range to help lift Flagler College to an 81-63 victory over Clearwater Christian College Saturday night at Flagler Gym.

Flagler won its season opener while Clearwater Christian dropped to 1-2.

D.J. Ferguson (Orlando, Fla., Bishop Moore Catholic HS) recorded a double-double with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and a game-high 12 assists.Chad July (Fort White, Fla., Bridgton (Maine) Academy) and John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla., New Hampton Prep (N.H.) each tallied 14 points while Eddie Fowler chipped in with 10 point, five blocks and four rebounds.

Troy Hadlock scored a team-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range. Todd Wahlberg added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars. Austin Robinson and C.J. Baxter rounded out the scoring for CCC with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The first half went back and forth as there were three lead changes and eight ties. Pietkiewicz scored seven points in the first half and his breakaway lay-up with 4:31 to go gave Flagler the lead for the rest of the half. Hadlock added 10 for Clearwater Christian.

Leading 49-44 in the second half, the Saints would go on a 23-5 run to push the game out of reach. Ferguson had back-to-back lay-ups to start the run while Fowler's dunk with 5:33 to go gave Flagler its biggest lead of the night (76-50).

Flagler shot 46.6% from the field, including a 52.6% clip in the second half, while Clearwater Christian hit 35.9%.
