North Georgia holds off Flagler, 88-80

DAHLONEGA, Ga. − Michael Moynihan led five players in double figures with 19 points and also dished out 10 assists to help North Georgia College & State University to an 88-80 win over Flagler College in a non-conference men's basketball game Thursday night at Memorial Hall.

North Georgia snapped its four-game losing streak and improved to 4-5 while Flagler fell to 3-4. Both teams are members of the Peach Belt Conference, but the game is not part of the conference schedule.

Carl Taylor tallied 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range while Bernard Rimmer and Andrew Bennett each contributed 12 points for North Georgia. Bennett corralled a team-high nine rebounds. Brody Langston chipped in with 11 points.

Eddie Fowler (Deltona, Fla./Pasco-Hernando CC) poured in a game-high 24 points on 10-of-16 (62.5%) shooting from the field. John Pietkiewicz (Winter Park, Fla./New Hampton School) added 17 points while Chad July (Fort White, Fla./Bridgton Academy) tacked on 15 points and six rebounds. Kenny Moore (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach HS) recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. #D.J. Ferguson# (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore HS), the nation's leader in assists with a 10.3 average, handed out 13 more.

North Georgia never trailed in the contest, and after a Justin Stokes (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast U.) layup made the score 17-15, NGCSU went on a 14-2 run over the next 3:17 top open up a 31-17 lead.
North Georgia led by as many as 16 (37-21), but Flagler rallied and closed the half on a 19-8 run and trailed 45-40.

Flagler tied the game at 62 as Ferguson scored on a transition layup with 11:30 remaining in the game. The last time the game was tied was at the 17:56 mark in the first half. North Georgia answered by scoring 10-of-the-next-14 points and held Flagler off for the last seven minutes.

Flagler out-scored North Georgia 42-26 in the paint and 23-4 in transition. North Georgia forced 15 turnovers which led to 17 points. NGCSU also made 10-of-17 (58.8%) from 3-point range.

Flagler will break for the Christmas holiday and return to the court on Dec. 30 against Geneva College at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
